The Department of Sociology & Social Anthropology has a strong research orientation. The Social Anthropology programme of the Department is currently growing at the undergraduate level. Some of the current research projects in this field are focused on governance, citizenship and HIV/AIDS; the impact of land restitution and development interventions on rural communities; and the manifestation of identity politics in language and music.
Duties: Developing and teaching undergraduate modules (the appointee may also be required to assist with postgraduate teaching and supervision).

Requirements: MA in Social Anthropology • an active research programme • commitment to publishing in academic journals • willingness and the ability to teach in a multilingual environment.
Recommendations: A doctorate (or valid registration for a doctorate) • experience in teaching Social Anthropology at undergraduate level • a strong background in social theory and anthropological perspectives on health, race, human rights, identity and violence.
